CANTON, Mo. - Culver-Stockton (Mo.) scored the game-winning goal with 49 seconds left in a 3-2 win over Central Methodist on Wednesday at NX Level Field in Heart of America Athletic Conference play.
With the game knotted at 2-2 and time and daylight quickly running out, Culver-Stockton (10-7, 3-3) earned a corner kick.�Thomas Cooper sent the kick into the penalty area where several players from both teams got a foot on it. Eventually, the ball found its way to John Hoemeyer, who drilled a shot into the back of the net to set off a wild celebration.
The Wildcats opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Mackenzie Northern found Cooper streaking down the right sideline, who scored to make the game 1-0.
Tyler Neis answered for Central Methodist (8-9, 1-5) in the 12th minute when he found the back of the net with an assist from Daniel Arrazola.�
Northern broke the tie in the 55th minute when he took a cross from Santiago Dirrocco and drilled it into the net.
The score stayed that way until the 74th minute when the Eagles' Chris McCoy re-directed a corner kick from Guiherm da Silveira past Richard Balek for the game-tying goal.
Balek made four saves to record the victory.
Eagles' goalkeeper Carlos Ribera made three saves.
Central Methodist outshot Culver-Stockton 14-12 and held an edge in corner kicks 6-4.
The Eagles travel to Baker (Kan.) on Saturday, Nov. 1, for an 8 p.m. CT kickoff. If Central Methodist wins and Avila (Mo.) ties or loses to Graceland (Iowa), then the Eagles secure a berth in the 2014 HAAC Championship.
