FAYETTE, Mo. - Daniel Vieira chipped a 35-yard pass to Erwin Sanchez Jr. who scored the golden goal in the 93rd minute to lift Central Methodist to a 2-1 overtime win over Culver-Stockton (Mo.) on Wednesday evening at Davis Field.
The win leaves Central Methodist (9-7-1, 1-5), Culver-Stockton and Avila (Mo.) in a three-way tie for the final playoff spot in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament, which starts November 9, heading into Saturday's regular-season finale against No. 16 Baker (Kan.).
The Eagles outshot Culver-Stockton (3-13-1, 1-5) 31-7 on Wednesday, but the Wildcats netted the first goal of the match in the 83rd minute off the foot of Thomas Cooper.
The Green and Black tied the match with 9.2 seconds remaining in regulation when Federico Morano took a Ricardo Valsien deflection and put the ball in the back of the net. Sanchez Jr.'s fifth goal of the season ended the match and kept Central Methodist alive for a berth in the postseason.
Eagles' goalkeeper German Schacht made one save in 92:10.
Wildcats' netminder Richard Balek recorded five saves playing the full contest.
Central Methodist held an edge in corner kicks, 10-1.
Kickoff against Baker on Saturday, which is Senior Day at Davis Field, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT.
