Eagle Men Split Weekend Matches

Eagle Men Split Weekend Matches
Senior Mauricio Savioli (Sao Paulo, Brazil) kicked a shot past the goal keeper with less than three minutes remaining in overtime to give CMU a dramatic 2-1 win over Doane College Sunday at Davis Field for the Eagles' first win of the season. The Eagles had suffered a 2-1 loss at Hannibal-LaGrange College Saturday.

In the match against Doane, sophomore Murun Altanhuyag (Mongolia) kicked the ball over the goal keeper and it dribbled back into the net in the 44th minute to give CMU a 1-0 lead. The two teams remained without another goal until the 85th minute, when Doane got a goal to tie the score. In the first overtime, CMU had two shots before Savioli kicked in the game-winning goal in the 98th minute to give CMU the 2-1 win.

In Saturday's match at Hannibal-LaGrange, the Eagles gave up a goal in the 24th minute to fall behind 1-0. Altanhuyag got CMU on the board in the 38th minute, but Hannibal-LaGrange answered with another goal 12 seconds later to take the 2-1 lead. Neither team was able to score in the second half as Hannibal-LaGrange won 2-1. CMU had eight shots, including six on goal in the match, while Hannibal-LaGrange finished with 25 shots.

CMU now sits at 1-2 on the season. Central Methodist will be back in action Wednesday when the Eagles face Harris-Stowe State University at 7 p.m. at Davis Field. CMU will then host Tabor College in a 7 p.m. match on Friday.
