Oskaloosa, Iowa — Central Methodist University men's golf turned in a competitive showing Wednesday at the William Penn Spring Statesmen Shootout, finishing seventh as a team in a strong field.
The Eagles' B team posted a score of 343 in the one-round event, highlighted by a standout individual performance from Zane Downey. Downey fired an impressive 2-over-par 74 to finish tied for second overall, just one stroke off medalist honors.
Downey's round paced CMU and put him among a four-player tie for second place, signaling one of the top individual efforts of the tournament.
Peyton Taylor followed with an 82 to tie for 23rd, while Alvin Braemhagen added a 93. Noah Caldwell carded a 94, and Evan Fleetwood rounded out the team scoring with a 96.
Competing as an individual, Sterling Sederwall shot a 102.
Mount Mercy's B team captured the team title with a score of 300, followed by Waldorf (306) and Simpson (313).
Central returns home to compete in the second edition of the CMU Spring Invitational on Thursday, April 16, at Hail Ridge Golf Course in Boonville, Missouri.
