Eagle women second at CMU Spring Open

BOONVILLE, Mo.
– Central Methodist University female golfer Jamie Gisburne (SR/Arlington, Tex.) shot a 15-over-par 86 Monday to help the Eagle women's golf team to a second-place tie after the first round of the 2017 CMU Spring Eagle Open played here at Hail Ridge Golf Course. CMU shot a 382 as a team, while the Eagle men's squad posted a 325 on the opening day and is in 10th place in its division.

WOMEN'S RECAP
Central Methodist trails first-place Baker University by 44 strokes in the women's division after the opening day of the tourney. Baker shot a 54-over-par 338, while the Eagles are tied with Missouri Valley College for second place with identical 382 scores. The Baker University 'B' squad is in fourth with a 397.

Gisburne's score was good enough to put her in a fifth-place tie with Tara Bradley of Culver-Stockton College. Samantha Mitchell of Baker leads the women's individual leader board with a 5-over-par 76. She is followed by Haley Barazza of Culver-Stockton with an 84, which is eight strokes off the lead. Kaci Dillingham of Baker and Mariah Farden of Missouri Valley are tied for third place with identical 85 scores, which are nine strokes behind Mitchell.

Central Methodist's Hannah Clark (SR/Kansas City, Kan.) is in 10th place with a 22-over-par 93, followed by Devin Henderson (FR/Branson, Mo.) in 18th place with a 101, Alex Fjeseth (JR/Nixa, Mo.) (20th) sits at 102, Kaitlyn Rogers (JR/Carl Junction, Mo.) (22nd) shot a 104 and Alexis Hagemeyer (24th) posted a 106 Monday.

MEN'S RECAP
Kyle Sachs (FR/Troy, Mo.) leads the Central Methodist men's squad after the opening round, shooting a 5-over-par 76. He is currently in an eight-way tie for 22nd place. CMU's Eric Vander Linden (SO/Boonville, Mo.) (34th) shot a 7-over-par 78, Ryan Rost (SR/Linn, Mo.) shot a 14-over-par 85, Brendan Ross (SR/Louisiana, Mo.) and Braden Campbell (FR/Strafford, Mo.) both posted an 86, Andrew Wooldridge (SO/Columbia, Mo.) shot a 91 and Geoff Herr posted a 98.

Missouri Valley leads the closely contested men's chase with an 8-over-par 292, while William Penn University is just two strokes back at 294. Evangel University is in third place with a 297 and Mount Mercy University and the Missouri Valley 'B' team is tied for fourth with 299 scores, just seven strokes off the pace.

Baker University's Christian Bickley leads the medalist chase in the men's division with a 3-under-par 68, followed by Evangel's Grand Siefried, Missouri Valley's Jan Jedlicka and William Penn's Zachary Chegwidden, who all shot 1-under-par 70s on Monday.

The Central Methodist golf teams will finish the CMU Spring Eagle Open on Tuesday, with the final round of men's and women's play starting at 9 a.m.
