Football continues Spring Practice on Thursday

Football continues Spring Practice on Thursday
FAYETTE, Mo. - Central Methodist is in its third week of Spring Practice, as the team went in half-gear on Thursday.

The squad, just nine days from staging the Green and White Spring Game, displayed plenty of energy and enthusiasm during the three-hour session that focused on individual and team instruction, fundamentals, conditioning and a variety of situational 7-on-7 drills.

Head Coach Jody Ford is seeing the progession of the squad, led by the return of quarterback Kaleb Borghardt from a leg injury. Ford was pleased with how much his squad accomplished, saying it was part of a trend through Central Methodist's spring drills.

Highlights Abound in 7-on-7, team drills
Several young Eagles defenders continue to make their presence felt in the 7-on-7 segment.
Cornerback Chris Porter deflected three passes in the segment. Linebacker Haylon Jacobs grabbed a tipped ball out of the air for an interception.

In full team, 11-on-11 drills, linebacker Wes Davis picked off a screen pass and raced 35 yards for a touchdown. Safety Daniel Wright, II also recorded an interception.

The offense was not to be completely outdone in 11-on-11, chalking up a few highlights of their own. Wide receiver Mitchell Swan turned a 10-yard reception on a dig route into a 50-yard scoring strike. Running back Jeremiah Jackson broke loose up the middle on a 45-yard touchdown run. Wide receiver Paul Stevens caught a pass on a wheel route for a 60-yard touchdown. On 3rd and 14, running back Francois Matthews caught a screen pass out of the backfield and raced 70 yards to paydirt.
