Sixty-three student-athletes named scholar-athletes, fifteen teams earn NAIA Scholar Team award

Fayette, Mo. - After an outstanding year of athletics in 2019-20, fifteen Central Methodist athletic teams were honored by the NAIA for their work inside the classroom, earning the prestigious honor as an NAIA Scholar Team. The announcement comes as part of the NAIA's National Awards Day, which recognizes the association's highest individual honors and achievements of NAIA student-athletes, administrators and coaches.

The teams that earned NAIA Scholar Team honors for the Eagles include; baseball, men's and women's basketball, competitive cheer and dance, women's cross country, football, men's and women's indoor and track & field, women's soccer, softball, volleyball, and women's wrestling. The Eagles softball team led the way with a 3.692 team grade point average.

In addition, 63 student-athletes were honored as Daktronics NAIA-Scholar Athletes, with women's soccer having the most of any team with 12. These 63 individuals are apart of more than 10,000 student-athletes across the nation along with 2,000 scholar teams. To be eligible for the NAIA Scholar-Athlete award, student-athletes must have been eligible to compete in their respective sports, completed their sophomore year of academic coursework, been enrolled at CMU for at least one full academic year, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
