Terrel Wilbourn enters his first season at the helm of the men’s wrestling program in its inaugural campaign.
He joins Central after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, NCAA D-II Lindenwood University (Mo.), where he coached three All-Americans and a national champion.
Prior to his coaching stint with the Lions, Wilbourn worked at the Maritime Wrestling Academy in Paducah, Ky. He worked with the middle school wrestling team and was named the Kentucky Middle School Coach of the Year.
As a competitor, Wilbourn is one of the most decorated wrestlers in Lindenwood history. He was the first national champion in program history, running up a spotless 25-0 record as a senior en route to the 157-pound title. For his prowess, he was named Central Region Wrestler of the Year by the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association.
He was a three-time All-American for the Lions, previously finishing second and third at the national tournament. During his freshman season at Iowa Central Community College, Wilbourn took home the NJCAA national title at 141 pounds.
Wilbourn’s roots in Missouri wrestling run deep. The St. Louis native captured three state titles while competing at Francis Howell Central High School. He also won an NHSCA national title, a cadet freestyle national title, and a junior freestyle national silver medal.
Wilbourn graduated from Lindenwood in 2016 with a degree in sports management.
